Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets center-cut, about 6oz each (the hero, thickness matters)
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Fresh dill or parsley for garnish optional but worth it

Method

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes. A preheated basket means immediate searing contact, don't skip this.
  2. Pat salmon fillets completely dry with paper towels. Dry surface = crispy exterior. Wet surface = steam. You want crispy.
  3. Brush each fillet with 1 tsp olive oil on all sides.
  4. Mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Rub evenly over the top and sides of each fillet.
  5. Place salmon skin-side down in the air fryer basket. Leave space between fillets, hot air needs to circulate.
  6. Air fry at 400°F for 8–10 minutes depending on thickness. No flipping needed. No peeking every 2 minutes. Let it cook.
  7. Check doneness with a thermometer or by pressing gently, it should flake easily but still look slightly glossy in the center.
  8. Serve immediately with a squeeze of fresh lemon. The brightness cuts right through the richness of the fish.
